To escape a scheme to marry her off to a dishonorable man, Margaret Macy flees London disguised as a housemaid. if she can remain unwed until her next birthday, she will receive an inheritance, and with it, sweet independence. But she never planned on working as a servant. And certainly not in the house of Nathaniel and Lewis Upchurch--both former suitors.Personal Review:
Margaret is a spoiled rich girl who's father is trying to marry her off. This is a Cinderella type story. Well, Margaret decides to run away with her servant Joan. She ends up working in Fairbourne Hall under two former suitors. Nathaniel is the most prominent. She had rejected him but she soon sees him in a better light as she learns hard work. She sees the error of her ways and becomes a better person. A predictable plot but this was much better than The Girl in the Gatehouse.
